The Designer
Brooks Ballard is a home and neighborhood designer. He founded Home Patterns LLC in 2001 and has been designing bungalows and unique neighborhoods constantly since. Prior to starting Home Patterns, Brooks worked on such varied projects as streetscapes for the Atlanta Olympics, sustainable homes for eco-friendly islands off the coast of South Carolina, and renovations of historic churches in Brooklyn, New York. With an educational background in both architecture and urban planning, Brooks brings a holistic design perspective to his practice. Small details compose the big picture – this is evident in both his homes and neighborhoods.
As a graduate student at Georgia Tech, Brooks worked with affordable housing experts to produce home plans that would be both inexpensive and attractive that fit into the existing community. The experience and principles involved stuck with him. A fascination with new urbanism and sustainability has lead Brooks to develop bungalows that not only reduce its initial carbon footprint, but will work well in newer sustainable communities.
